William E. Knepp, age 74 of Fairview, Michigan, passed away at The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services on Monday, April 3, 2017.
William was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 18, 1942 to Carl and Dorothy (Schmid) Knepp. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He met Janet while in the service, and they married in Rothsay, Minnesota on October 30, 1965. The couple lived in Bay City, then settled in Fairview where they raised their family. William worked at Kneeland Industries as a machinist for many years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Rose City and the Mio Lions Club. He was the “Boss” of the Jackpine Derby in Fairview for more than 40 years. William enjoyed reading and woodworking, especially making doll houses and cedar chests for his family.
William is survived by his wife Jan of Fairview, MI; his children: James (Tracy) Knepp of Owosso, MI, Kent (Julie) Knepp of Traverse City, MI, Angela (Martin) Troyer of Fairview, MI, and Dee (Dave) Clover of Mio, MI; his sister Jill (Clifford) Lietzke of Fairview, MI; his brother Jerry Knepp of Fairview, MI; 13 grandchildren: Jonathan, Kathryne, Sarah, James, Zachary, Rachel, William, Rylee, Ethan, Kristina, Kaleb, Spencer, and Danielle; and 1 great-granddaughter Lillian. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Betty Knepp of Mt. Pilot, NC. William was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack.
Visitation Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 4-8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 1 PM also at Lashley Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Stoneback officiating. Military Honors will be offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service.
