Wesley "Dean" Gotts, age 91 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
Dean was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on June 15, 1927 to Wesley James and Effie Pearl (Cutler) Gotts. He graduated from Bad Axe High School with the Class of 1944. He served his country during WWII in the US Army. After his service, Dean graduated from CMU in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree (where he also played football), and later received his Master’s Degree from Wayne State University in 1961. He retired as a high school principal from Warren Woods School District, Warren, MI, in 1982. Together with his wife Marjorie and son Jerry, Dean owned and operated Gotts Landing in Mio until 2006. Dean enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, football, and The History Channel.
Dean is survived by his children: Jerry Gotts of Luzerne, MI, and Debbie Gotts of Fairview, MI; his grandchildren: Dena Gotts, Mikala Oosterhof, Jordan Dean Gotts, and Justin Downs; his former daughter-in-law Jill Oosterhof; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, 10 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Visitation on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 1 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and also on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the Mio United Methodist Church from 10 AM until Funeral Services at 11 AM with Pastor Brenda Klacking officiating. Military Honors offered by Luzerne American Legion Post # 162. Interment will follow the services at Kittle Cemetery, Mio, Michigan.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mio United Methodist Church or The Chamber of Commerce for Oscoda County for County activities.
