Wendell H. Green

Wendell Horace Green, 93, of Comins, Michigan, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, surrounded by loving family.
Visitation Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 6-9 P.M. at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio and again on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 12:00 Noon until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 PM at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, Mio with Pastor Elizabeth Chace officiating. Interment at Clinton Township Cemetery, Comins.
Wendell was born August 24, 1916 to the late Sam and Stella (Hunt) Green, in the village of Hillman in Montmorency County, Michigan. He was the oldest of four children including the late Marion (Obie) Farrier of Hillman, the late Margaret (Clifford) Beauregard of Hillman, and William Green, Jr. (Joyce) of Alpena. He and his late wife of 71 years, June Eleanor (Klein) Green were married at the Episcopal Church in Alpena, Michigan on May 23, 1936.
Wendell has had a rich life beginning with working in CCC camps during the great depression, serving his country in the military during WWII, working as building contractor, stone mason, and well driller among other occupations.
Wendell's warm personality and generosity made many friendships over his lifetime, leading him into an active social life that included, among other things, traveling, camping, and memberships in many local organizations. He was a member ol the Bonehead Hunting Club, a charter member and past president of the Comins Eagles. He and his late wife were members of, and faithfully attended, services and activities at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Mio. He traveled throughout North America on numerous hunting trips and shot his last eight-point in the fall of 2009.
Wendell is survived by four sons: Robert (Mary Lou) Green of Fairview, Linwood (Maria) Green of Comins, Donald (Sue) Green of Holt, and Steven (Barbara) Green of Mio. His grandchildren are Tamara Green of Fairview, Pamela (Steven) Sendek of Grayling; Melanie (James) Chiodini of Petoskey, Robert (Mary Jo) Green of Gaylord, Melinda Green of Fairview, Cindy (Duane) Troyer of Fairview, Monte (Leslie) Green of Comins, Sandy (Sheryll) Green of Comins, Micky (Barbara Kay) Green of Comins, Robin Green of Holt, Don Jr. (Pam) Green of Holt, Dana (Jim) Parker of Fairview, Steven Green Jr. of Mio, Eli R. Green (deceased), and many, many great grandchildren.
Grandpa Green's great heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him. We will miss him.
