Walter "Burt" Greer

March 26, 1946 — July 15, 2024

Walter Burt Greer of Mio, Michigan, affectionately known as Uncle Burt, passed away on July 15, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. His presence filled our lives with a unique blend of sarcasm and wit, always delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin.

Burt's love for his family was unparalleled, especially for his beloved wife of 39 years-Janice Marie Matthew’s Greer. More than just husband and wife, they were best friends, soulmates, and partners in crime. Their love story was a testament to true companionship and unwavering support.

Uncle Burt was born to Mary Lou Betts and Walter Burt Greer Sr. on March 26,1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Burt graduated from Louisiana Tech University with his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration prior to joining the Army in 1969. Burt grew up with a deep sense of family and faith. He shared a special relationship with his brother, Richard Wesley Greer, with whom he created countless cherished memories.

Burt had a creative side that he expressed through his silly rhymes, proudly calling them poetry. These whimsical verses brought joy to all of us, showcasing his playful spirit. His enthusiasm was infectious, especially when it came to family activities like playing the Wii game system, bringing everyone together for fun and friendly competition.

His heart was as big as his love for meat, which he believed was essential to any meal. Whether it was a barbecue, breakfast, or a family dinner, Burt made sure there was plenty to go around. Fishing was another passion of Burt's, and he loved nothing more than spending a day by the water, rod in hand. His competitive streak shone through when it came to his favorite sports teams, adding an extra layer of excitement to every game.

Uncle Burt was known for his restaurant ritual: no matter where we were, he always made it a point to ask if the scallops were in season. This quirky tradition became a beloved reminder of his quick wit and sarcasm.

Uncle Burt- JoJo, Paul, little Jan, Ann, Payton, Patrick, Paige, Jasmine, Andres and the newest addition (your great-great nephew)Teddy will miss your jokes, your rhymes, your love for family and friends, and your larger-than-life personality. You taught us to find joy in the little things, to cherish our loved ones, and to never take ourselves too seriously.

Rest in peace, Uncle Burt. You will forever be in our hearts, and your spirit will continue to bring smiles to our faces for years to come.
