Wallace “Wally” Schwabe, age 78 of Ypsilanti, MI, and longtime resident of Mio, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015. Wally was born in Ferndale, MI on June 5, 1937 to Luella and Francis (Stone) Schwabe. He graduated from Lincoln High School and soon began a job at Ford Motor Company’s -Wixom Plant. He lived in Novi, MI and worked at Ford Motor for over 30 years. Wally provided a home for his mother and uncle until their deaths. After retirement, Wally moved to Houghton Lake, MI and ultimately to Mio, MI, to live near his brother, Gerald “Gerry” Schwabe. Wally loved living up North in Mio and spending winters in Florida. He enjoyed eating out, watching TV, playing horseshoes, golf, shuffleboard and darts with friends at the Mio Moose, of which he was a longtime member. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, patience and wonderful dry sense of humor. Wally is survived by this brother, Gerald (Lorraine) Schwabe of Ypsilanti and Milford, MI, his 2 nieces Sheryl Schwabe (Brandon Parkes) of Superior, CO and Susan Schwabe-Nuttall (William Nuttall) of Ypsilanti, MI, and his 7 great-nephews and great-niece, Thomas, Daniel, Edward, Abbey, Eli, Connor and Leo. He is also survived by his dog Pepper. Wally had a great love for his dogs. Wally was predeceased in death by his parents, his nephew Michael Schwabe and a very dear friend Shirley Cunningham. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, 11:00 am at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan.
