Mrs. Vivian Leona Whitmarsh, age 98, of Mio, passed away Friday July 31, 2008 at the Home at AuSable Valley Community in Fairview.
Visitation Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 2-6 P.M. at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Ml, and again from 2 P.M. until Funeral Services at 3 P.M. on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Mio Church of God with Pastor K. C. Graves officiating. Interment at Kittle Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitmarsh was born on June 6, 1910 to Fletcher and Lenora (Rockefellow) Deyarmond in Sterling, Michigan and raised in Mio. Vivian graduated from Mio High School in the Class of 1932. She played on the School's Girl's Basketball Team. Vivian was a cook who worked at several Mio restaurants. Vivian also worked as a cook for Pontiac State Mental Hospital, retiring in the early 1970's. She was a member of the Mio Church of God. When she was in her 70's, she went on a church group trip to Israel, where she fondly remembered her ride on a camel. Vivian enjoyed upholstery work, and quilting for her nieces and nephews, as well as donating her handiwork to the church. She also supplied homemade pies for local restaurants.
Mrs. Whitmarsh is survived by her children: Maurice (Judith) Cook and Dona (Patrick) McQuarter, both of Mio; her grandchildren: Maureen Slade, William Cook, Shirley Love, Charles Sherwood, and Sennett Sherwood; her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Zachary, Sierra, Jessica, Lenora, Samantha, Eben, and Nicholas; and her great, great-granddaughter Kendra. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, six sisters and one brother.
