Virginia L. Tappan, age 80 of McKinley, Michigan, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Hilltop Manor in Roscommon, MI.
Virginia was born on August 29, 1934 to William and Lena May (Harlow) Barlow in Glasgow, Kentucky. The family moved to Livonia from Kentucky when Virginia was young. At the age of 14, she worked at a grocery store and remained a cashier for many years. She married Russell Tappan in Virginia at the age of 17. The couple lived in Garden City, MI where Virginia raised their family and worked as an IMB Key Punch for an insurance company. They retired to McKinley where they lived in a home they built themselves. Virginia was the secretary for a while of the McKinley Civic Center; and was a member of the Mio Moose Club. Virginia will be remembered as a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family always remained her #1 priority.
Virginia is survived by her husband Russell Tappan; her children: Russell Lee (Kathleen) Tappan of Mio, MI and Sally Day, also of Mio, MI; her grandchildren: Russell (Merianne) Tappan III of Comins, MI; Kevin (Christine) Tappan of Mio, MI and Stephanie Day of Holt, MI; and 7 great-grandchildren: Devon, Peyton, Cole, Noah, Jude, Mackenzie, and Camryn. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers: William Barlow and Jack Barlow.
Visitation Monday, November 24, 2014 from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Mio Baptist Church, Mio, MI with Funeral Services at 1 PM, with Pastor Glynn McMorris officiating. Interment will follow at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Advantage of West Branch, Michigan.
