Virginia Holberton, age 90 of Comins, Michigan, passed away at The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Fairview on Thursday, November 19, 2015.
Virginia was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 11, 1925 to Francis and Margaret (Exel) Hengy. She married John R. Holberton on November 8, 1943. The family moved to Comins in 1958 from Detroit. She and her husband John, and son John D. Holberton built Cedar Valley Golf Course, beginning in 1983 and opening in 1990. They ran the golf course until 2012. Virginia was a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida, where she was a Salvation Army bell ringer. Virginia also enjoyed golfing and darting.
Virginia is survived by her children: Frank (Linda) Holberton, Lee (Kristen) Holberton, Mary Swartzendruber, Liz (Larry) Sidebottom, Tom (Becky) Holberton, Joseph (Tammy) Holberton, and Mike (Deb) Holberton: her twin sisters Ann Hengy and Jan (Larry) Petty; her brother John (Sherry) Hengy; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband John R. Holberton, her son John D. Holberton, 3 brothers: Joe, Larry, and Fritz Hengy; and her sister Theresa Hinkle.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment of her and her husband John’s ashes will take place at a National Cemetery at a later date.
Her children and grandchildren remained, always in her heart.
