Victor L. Brousseau age 85, of McKinley died Monday, August 16, 2010 at Medilodge of Hillman.
Victor was born to the late Henry 1881-1965 and Mary Georgianna King 1885-1973 Brousseau on July 3, 1925 in Alpena. His choice of character and Faith was encouraged by his parents; his siblings: Bernadette Natalie 1907-1997 (Eugene LeTourneau), Emiel Joseph 1907-1908, Joseph Emiel 1909-1995 (Hazel), Arthur 1910, Evelyn Blanche 1912-1994 (Lee Petherick), twins 1914, Alfred Roy I916-2004 (Norma), John Francis 1918-1976 (Alma), and Imelda Angelina 1921-1971 (Leon Fanslow); and St. Anne Catholic Church.
Vic graduated from St. Anne High School in 1943. In the final months of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He married Margaret Florence Weine 1924-2000 on November 22, 1948 at St. Anne Church in Alpena. Residing in the Alpena and Cathro area until 1969, Vic balanced his time between family, work and softball, playing for community and corporate sponsored teams.
After selling the family farm, Vic and Margaret purchased McKinley Grocery 1969-1987 / 1992-1995 and moved their family to Oscoda County. Vic commuted from their home to his work at Presque Isle Corporation-Stoneport Quarry 1954-1971 before purchasing Fairview IGA. The small Brousseau grocery chain only lasted two years when he sold the IGA and began driving bus at Mio-AuSable Schools. It was a job that took him to custodian to Supervisor 1975-1989 to custodian again 1973-1998. He even substituted as Custodial Supervisor at Fairview Area Schools.
Vic's passion was work. Besides long hours at the store and his day job, he plowed snow all winter, mowed grass all summer, and made donuts every weekend.
Vic was a devout Catholic family man as a member of St. Mary Catholic Church-Our Lady of the Woods Shrine. He became a Third Degree Knight in 1960 and remained a member of Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Woods Council #7329 and Fourth Degree Sir Knight in 1985 with membership in St. Mary Assembly #2371.
