Vernon Wayne Oaks, age 84, of Fairview, Michigan went home to be with his Lord and savior December 18, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac MI after suffering a massive stroke three days prior. Vernon was born May 3, 1933 in Fairview, Michigan. He was the third child of Charles and Mary (Handrich)Oaks. Vernon grew up in Fairview, Michigan and attended Fairview School to the eleventh grade. He served two years in the 1W service in Lansing Michigan during World War II, and worked on the family dairy farm with his father and brother Erie Oaks.
Vernon married his wife Betsy (Stoltzfus)Oaks on August 17, 1957. They owned a dairy farm in Fairview Michigan where they raised their six children: Dolores Tracey, Dawson Oaks, Wallace Oaks, Terrence Oaks, Gareth Oaks and Gretchen Oaks.
Vernon was an avid sportsman and enjoyed spending time with family and friends Fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and vacationing at the family cabin in Kabenung Lake in Ontario Canada. He also enjoyed putting in a vegetable garden and sharing the bounty with family and friends each year. Vernon and Betsy are active members of Mio New Hope Assembly of God where he had served on the church board.
Surviving are: Wife, Betsy (Stoltzfus)Oaks of Fairview, MI, brother Erie (Sovilla)Oaks of Fairview, MI, Sister Lorene (Orlo) Troyer of Fairview, MI, daughter Dolores (Mike)Tracey, of Hillman, MI, daughter in law Brenda Oaks of Fairview, MI, son Wallace(Sondra) Oaks of Fairview, MI, son Terrence (Freda) Oaks of Fairview, MI, son Gareth (Beth) Oaks of Fairview, MI, and daughter Gretchen Oaks of Manhattan Beach, CA. and 26 grandchildren: Brent (Darci) Tracey, Benjamin (Nicole)Tracey, Corwin (Ashley Marquardt) Tracey, Marvin Tracey, Theron (Abby) Tracey, Myron Tracey, Kevin Tracey, Loren Tracey, Karena Tracey, Kristina Orban, Tiffany (Tim) Butler, Brandi (Charles) Willobee, Tony Oaks, Tamar Oaks, Durius Oaks, Israel Oaks, Asher Oaks, Dominique Gingerich, Cameron Gingerich, Christian Gingerich, Noah Oaks, Gideon Oaks, Chase Oaks, Micah Oaks, Elijah Oaks, and Joy Oaks. Eight great grandchildren Maison Tracey, Ellie Tracey, Wyatt Tracey, Eva Tracey, Molly Tracey, Derrick Crosby, Charity Orban, Brody Butler, and Dawson Willobee. He was preceded in death by: His parents Charles and Mary Oaks, sister Leola (Walter) Kauffman, and son Dawson Oaks.
Viewing will be held 10:00-1:00 Wednesday, December 20 at Fairview Mennonite Church with the Funeral at 1:00 and a luncheon to follow.
