Mrs. Verda M. Layman, age 95, of Fairview, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at home with her family.
Visitation Monday, November 24, 2008 from 6-9 P.M. at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Ml, and from 10 A.M. until the time of Funeral Service on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 11 A.M. at the Comins Mennonite Church with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. In accordance with Verda's wishes, cremation will follow the funeral. Interment of ashes at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
Mrs. Layman was born on September 2, 1913 in Hesston, Kansas to Edward & Mary (Diller) Shettler. She married Edwin Layman in Kalona, Iowa on June 27, 1937. They moved to Orlando, FL in 1956, where Verda worked as a lunchroom manager for Lockhart Elementary School for 18 years. While living there, Verda was a member of the Lockhart Methodist Church. In 2000, the couple moved to Fairview. Verda was a member of the Comins Mennonite Church. She enjoyed reading and will be remembered as an excellent seamstress and ""The World's Best Cook"".
Mrs. Layman is survived by her children: Barbara (Robert) Richmond of Eustis, FL, and Rex Layman of Marenisco, Ml; her sister Grace Reese of Coldwater, Ml; her sisters-in-law: Mary Alice Handrich, Grace Handrich and Pat Layman; her brothers-in-law: Carl Layman and Ellsworth Handrich; three grandchildren: Angela (Rob) Laird, Jake Richmond, and Jesse Layman; two expected twin great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edwin; her sister Elsie, and her brothers: Bill, Ernie, Dick, and Milford.
