Velma J. Emig, age 87 of Comins, Michigan, a devout Christian, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at The Home at well Spring Lutheran Services in Faiview.
Velma was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on February 20, 1928 to Claude and Caroline (Bushman) Harder. She moved to Comins as a young child. Velma married Wilbert Emig on October 12, 1947 at the Comins Mennonite Church. She was a member of the Comins Mennonite Church. Velma worked as a bookkeeper for her husband Wilbert in their pulpwood business. She was a Do-It-Yourselfer, a seamstress, a baker, and was an original recycler.
Velma is survived by her children: Don (Maggie) Emig, Stuart (Susan) Emig, Ted (Tammy) Emig, Mona (Cary) Lee, and Marshall Emig; her sisters: Doris Jensen and June Hinkley; her brother Delton Harder; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilbert; her sister Shirley Bennett: her daughter Gaye Maurer; her daughter-in-law Sue Emig; 2 grandsons: Jessie and Travis Emig; and her great-grandson Jackson Lee.
Visitation on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 5-8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and again on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 1 PM until Funeral Services at 2 PM at the Comins Mennonite Church with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. Interment at Clinton Township Cemetery, Comins, MI.
Memorial donations may be made to the Comins Mennonite Church.
