Twila (Handrich) Kauffman was born on a farm near Mio, Michigan on April 30, 1933 to Harvey and Ruby Handrich. She died on January 25, 2026 while living at Hillman Haven Assisted living. She married Boyd Kauffman on August 29, 1953. They had three children Doyle (Lori) Kauffman, Robin (John) Winton, Janelle (Mike) Sauer.
She attended Fairview Mennonite Church in Fairview. When her children were old enough to attend school she worked for three years as a teacher's aid. This helped her make the decision to attend college for a teaching degree. She attended Kirtland Community College for two years, and then continued on to Central Michigan College in Mt Pleasant, Michigan. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching At Fairview Area School and later received her Master’s Degree in Classroom Teaching. She taught for twenty one years, and then retired to run the motel that Boyd and she bought and had moved to its present location, which they owned and operated for twenty five years. Later they bought a motor home and spent a few years traveling the U.S. Traveling to all the U.S. states.
Twila is survived by her three children Doyle (Lori) Kauffman, Robin (John) Winton, Janelle (Mike) Sauer plus seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a brother Darrell Handrich. She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd of 69 years, her parents Harvey and Ruby Handrich, sisters Velda Neff and Carol Gerber, brothers Vernell Handrich and Ron Handrich.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date.
