Thelma A. Booth, age 99, passed away at the Wellspring Lutheran Community Home in Fairview, Michigan on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Thelma was born in Charlevoix, Michigan on September 9, 1915 to Edward and Helena (LaValle) Swanson. She had worked as a Registered Nurse at the Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City; also for Edward J. Stach, DO, at his hospital in Mio; and for the Department of Health as Oscoda County Nurse, retiring in 1977, after a 40-year nursing career.
Thelma was a longtime member of the Mio Church of God. She had a deep love for the Lord and her life was a wonderful example to all her children and grandchildren of walking out that love. In later years she enjoyed watching birds, playing board games with friends, and taking care of others.
Thelma is survived by her daughter Benjie (Merrill) Esch of Sarasota, FL; her son Michael (Patricia) Palmer of Lake Wales, FL; 3 step-daughters: Pauline (Jack) Cournyer; Sondra (Jim) Houlton; and Colleen (Ron) Solak; all of Mio, MI; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers and 2 sisters; her husband George Booth; and 2 grandchildren: Carlee Allen and Ramona Houlton.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 4-8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan; and again on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 2 PM until the time of Funeral Services at 3 PM, also at Lashley Funeral Home, with Pastor Eldon Krider officiating. In accordance with Thelma’s wishes, cremation will follow, with later interment of ashes at Kittle Cemetery, Mio, MI.
