Sigmund Mitechell Cieszkowski

Sigmund Mitchell ""Ziggy"" Cieszkowski, age 88, of Luzerne, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 19, 2010.
Ziggy was born on July 12, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan, to David and Mary (Czarnecki) Cieszkowski.  He served his country with honor and valor in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater.  He was a Second Lieutenant who was awarded 2 Purple Hearts.  He married Kathlyn ""Donna"" on September 27, 1947 in Detroit.  Ziggy was a carpenter who worked for Mutschler Kitchens of Gross Pointe, MI, until his retirement.  He and Donna moved to Luzerne, MI in 1984.  Ziggy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio, MI; and also was a 4th Degree Member of the Mio Knights of Columbus-Our Lady of the Woods Council #7329 and St. Mary's Assembly #2371.
Surviving are his sons:  Thomas (Monika) Cieszkowski of Detroit, MI; and David (Janet) Cieszkowski of St. Clair Shores, MI; granddaughters: Kristin and Angela Aussicker; great grandsons: Tyler and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kathlyn ""Donna"" Cieszkowski; sons: Timothy and Christopher; and his brothers and sisters:  Helen, Francis, Jenny, Edward, Veronica, Edmund, Johnny, and Mary.
Visitation Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 1-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, with a Prayer Service at 7 PM; followed by 4th degree Knights of Columbus Rosary.  Visitation will also be held at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, Warren 3-9 PM Thursday, Sept, 23, 2010.  He will lie in state from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 24, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (Greektown) Detroit, Michigan.
