Shirley A. Miller

February 24, 1943 — March 5, 2015

Mrs. Shirley Arlene (Handrich) Miller passed away peacefully in her home in the presence of her loved
ones on March 5, 2015 in Fairview, Michigan at the age of 72. Shirley is survived by her husband Lowell,
daughter Gwen (Pat) Duckworth, Goshen, IN, son Greg (Melissa) Miller, Goshen, IN, and grandchildren
Ryan and Megan Duckworth and Brianna, Brockton, and Brayden Miller, all of Goshen, IN along with
brothers Dean Handrich and Lyle (Diana) Handrich and sisters Dorothy (Okie) Kauffman and Sharon
Holberton and sister-in-law Grace Handrich, all of Fairview, MI and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Ruth (Yoder) Handrich, stepmother Ruby (Yoder) Handrich,
brother Dwight Handrich, brother-in-law John Holberton, and niece Keri (Kauffman) Taylor. Shirley was
born on February 24, 1943 in Mio, Michigan to Jacob and Ruth (Yoder) Handrich. She graduated from
Fairview High School in 1961. She married Lowell Miller on September 18, 1964. She was a selfemployed
housekeeper and a homemaker to her husband and children.
Shirley excelled as a seamstress, gardener, cook, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an active,
lifetime member of Fairview Mennonite Church and served faithfully on the decorating committee. She
was a dedicated volunteer in the Northern Michigan Relief Sale for 48 years, from the time it started
until her death, making comforters, quilts and other crafts, along with serving as the head of the craft
booth “Creative Corner.” She lived her life dedicated to her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved the outdoors
and spent many hours picking berries and mushrooms, growing a lush garden, and caring for her
gorgeous flower beds.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday March 8, 2015 from 3:00 pm-8:00 pm at Fairview Mennonite Church,
Fairview, MI. The funeral is scheduled for Monday March 9, 2015 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour
prior. Pastor David Price will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial donations can be
made to Northern Michigan Relief Sale, PO Box 73, Fairview, MI 48621.
