Shirley Fay Larrison went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009.
Visitation 5-9 PM , Wednesday May 6, 2009 at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio and Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at The Comins Mennonite Church, with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. Interment at Clinton Township Cemetery, Comins, MI.
Shirley was born February 3, 1922 on the Bailey homestead in Comins to George and Martha (Fultz) Bailey. She was always involved with farm-life throughout her childhood and adult years. She took great pride in the fact the farm remains in her family for 120 years. On October 30, 1941 Shirley married C. Emerson Larrison. After 1 l/2 years of army life, they moved to a lumber camp in Newberry Michigan where Shirley started her teaching career in 1946 in a 1 room school with 30 children. In 1950 they moved back to the farm on Bailey Road where Shirley continued teaching until her retirement in 1977. Shirley had a zest for life and lived each day to the fullest. She enjoyed her family, gardening, snowmobiling, quilting, painting, birding, travel, fishing and loved their cabin in Canada. In later years, she served as an English teacher short term in China in 2004, traveled to Jamaica to help Habitat for Humanity and in 2007 served as a teacher at the Hopi Mission School in Kykotsmovi, Arizona.
Shirley was a life long member of Comins Mennonite Church where she actively served as a Sunday School Teacher and also in the Women in Mission group where she helped with many quilts, comforters and school kits for MCC Relief Sale.
She is survived and has left a rich legacy to her 2 sons, James (Dawn) Larrison of Comins, Philip (Lisa) Larrison of Fairview, 3 grandchildren, Gina (Jason) Nettleman, Tyler Larrison and Jordan (Ashley) Larrison and 3 great granddaughters, Jade, Brea and Madalyn Larrison. She is also survived by 1 sister, Sally (Merlin) Shantz and 2 sisters-in-law: Darlene Bailey and Jean (Bob) Shantz,; 2 brothers-in-law: Joe (Donna) Larrison and Dick (Evelyn) Larrison, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, C Emerson Larrison, her sister Dorothy Winton and brother Roy Bailey,
The family would like to express special thanks to Bill and Grace Goldsmith for their wonderful assistance in traveling to dialysis.
