Shirley Getty

Shirley A. Getty, age 89 of Mio, MI, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Bortz Health Care of Rose City, Michigan.
Shirley was born on October 12, 1923 in Burleigh County, North Dakota to Samuel and Josephine (Kraun) Lorenz.  She was the youngest of 10 children.  Shirley moved to Detroit, Michigan when she was 18.  She married Wayne Getty on April 10, 1948.  The couple lived in the Caro, MI area and in Sault Ste. Marie, MI before retiring to the Mio, MI area in the mid 1980â??s.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio and also had been a Hospice volunteer.  She was a homemaker who was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Shirley is survived by her children:  Douglas Getty of East Tawas, MI; Margaret Getty of Ann Arbor, MI; Kathleen Josephine Weeks and Ryan Michael Getty (and his life partner, Joy) all of Dallas, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Wayne.
Visitation Friday, February 15, 2013 from 5-8 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation again on Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 9: 00AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, MI with Father Santiago Hoyumpa as celebrant.  Interment at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, MI, with members of The Knights of Colombus Council 7329 serving as pallbearers
