Sandra “Sandy” Lee McKenna (Mallory)
July 7, 1961 – December 7, 2024
Sandra “Sandy” Lee McKenna (Mallory), age 63, passed peacefully in her sleep, which is probably the first time anyone has ever described her as "peaceful." Known for her quick wit, vibrant personality, and undying love for Diet Coke, Sandy is certainly shaking things up in Heaven. Sandy was a woman of many passions which included University of Michigan football, her growing collection of Buddha statues, and the art of transforming any card or package into a masterpiece covered in stickers. Her enthusiasm for these things was matched only by her love for her family.
She is survived by her cherished sister, Betty; her only daughter and favorite sidekick, Tiffany; her favorite son-in-law, Chris, who may now get to grill in peace; and her adored granddaughters who she lovingly referred to them as her “cupcakes”: EmmaLee, Olivia, and McKayla, who will carry her sparkle and sass into the next generation. She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a great-great nephew, all of whom are certain that family gatherings will never be the same without her signature commentary.
Sandy was greeted at the pearly gates by her parents, Frank and Lona, her beloved niece Missy, and, and her lifelong crush and soulmate (he just didn’t know it), Dean Martin. Sandy was never shy about her adoration for “The King of Cool” and likely spent her first moments in the afterlife requesting him to serenading her with his own songs. Whether Dean’s crooning will finally have its muse or he’ll start Googling “heavenly restraining order laws” is anyone’s guess.
Per Sandy’s request, there will be no wake as she made it very clear she had no patience for fake people and was concerned that without her around to give them “the look,” they might linger too long around her loved ones. Her family will honor her memory by being their real, genuine selves, and wear their flaws as badges of honor—just as she taught them.
Sandy’s legacy is one of love, laughter, second chances, and perfectly executed humor. She reminded us all that life is too short not to decorate it with stickers, drink your favorite soda, and cheer loudly for your team. She will be missed beyond measure but remembered every time a quick wit or a perfectly timed zinger turns a dull moment into an unforgettable one. Heaven just got a lot more entertaining with Sandy there. May the Diet Coke fountains in heaven never run dry for you.
