Mrs. Ruth Leora Kendall (nee Marsh), age 92, of Mio, MI, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 at The Home at AuSable Valley Community in Fairview.
Ruth was born in Mio, Michigan to James Manson and Lucy Elizabeth (Wright) Marsh. She attended and graduated from the Mio Agricultural High School in 1936. She married John Elmore Kendall, of Holt, Michigan, at the Mio United Methodist Church on September 2, 1938. The couple moved to Portland, Michigan in September of 1938, then moved to Holt, Michigan in April of 1939. From August 1944-January, 1946, her husband John served in the Philippine Islands as a Navy Seabee. Upon his return home, the couple raised their family in the Holt area until moving to Mio in 1957. They built their own house on Deyarmond Street and moved in May, 1961. Ruth joined the Mio Rebekah Lodge #16 on February 3, 1937, and upon her return to Mio, continued her membership. She became President of the Lodge from 1974-1975. After Johnâ??s death on March 27, 1988, Ruth started spending 6 months in Florida each winter. She was a homemaker who cared deeply for her family.
Ruth is survived by her children: Robert James (Katherine) Kendall of Westphalia, MI; Fred Patrick Kendall of Mio, MI; Mary Ellen (Tim) Miller of Mio, MI; and William Manson (Laura) Kendall of Mio, MI; her grandchildren: John Scott (Trish) Kendall, Kevin Marsh(Joanne) Kendall, Robert James (Brenda) Kendall II, Melissa Jo Kendall, Tracy Marie (Dave) Kunzel, Elizabeth June (Jeff) Brydgis, Hannah Ruth Miller, Rebecca Leighan (Vaughan) Miller ,Monica Ann (Dave) Ricket, Natalie Marie (Jan) Cyraniak, and William Manson Kendall II; 17 great grandchildren; her daughters-in-law: Sandra Kendall and Torii Hamilton; and her sister-in-law Florence Kendall . She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Elmore Kendall; her daughter Elizabeth Ann Kendall; her son John Scott Kendall; and 4 sisters: Florence Popps, Nellie Mosher, Mae Freese, and Alice Bloomfield.
Visitation on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI with a Rebekah Lodge Service at 7:00 PM. Visiting then again on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 10 AM until funeral service at 11 AM at the Mio United Methodist Church with Pastor Marcel Lamb officiating. Interment at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan. A luncheon will be served following the committal service at the Mio New Hope Assembly of God Church in Mio.
