Russell Lee Tappan, age 80, of McKinley, MI, passed away Wednesday, July 15th, peacefully, at his residence.
Russell was born in Alpena, Michigan on August 8, 1934, a son of the late Martha (Bigelow) and Walter Tappan. The family moved to Livonia where Russell lived until he married his wife Virginia on July 15, 1951 in Virginia. The couple settled in the Livonia/Garden City Area where Russell worked as a supervisor for for the D.P.W., retiring in 1989 after 32 years service. He and Virginia settled in McKinley after he built their home. Russell attended the Mio Baptist Church, was a member of The Mio Moose Lodge and was active in the McKinley Civic Center. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, feeding animals and kept busy helping others, always putting others needs, before his own.
Surviving are his children: Russell (Kathy) Tappan of Mio and Sally Day of Mio; sister: Mildred Daniel of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and a half sister: Particia Bragg of Maine; 3 grandchildren: Russell Tappan, Kevin Tappan and Stephanie Day. 7 grandchildren: Devon, Cole, Peyton, Mackenzie, Camryn, Noah and Jude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Virginia and brother Walter.
Visitation Friday, July 17, 2015 from 10 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 12:00 Noon at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI with Reverend Glynn McMorris officiating. Interment at Mentor Township Cemetery Mio, MI.
Memorials may be made to the Mio Baptist Church.
