Roy J. Boerner, age 94 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at Hancock Haven Assisted Living in Cheboygan, Michigan on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
Roy was born in Mio, Michigan on July 17, 1923 to Charles and Dola (Henderson) Boerner. Roy served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was on a LST ship during the invasion of Iwo Jima, and witnessed the American Flag being raised there. He married Jean on September 5, 1947 in Mio. Roy was a foreman for Permalog, and was also part owner of Weaver Trucking Company. He was an active member of the Mio United Methodist Church; serving with the Mio United Methodist Men and participating in the Roast Beef dinner fundraisers. He was also a member of the Oddfellows. Roy had enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, and golf.
Roy is survived by his children: Michael Boerner of Mio, MI; and Rebecca (Kenneth) DesArmo of Cheboygan, MI; 7 grandchildren: Justin Richards, Christina McLeod, Lindsey DesArmo (Joe VanderMulen), Brandon Richards, Rob (Catherine) Boerner, Lauren DesArmo, and Brent (Rebekah) DesArmo; and 3 great-grandchildren: Ty McLeod, Abigail & Abraham DesArmo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, his children: Kathy Richards and Robert Boerner, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Visitation Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Mio United Methodist Church, Mio, Michigan, with Funeral Services at 12 Noon, officiated by Pastor Brenda Klacking. Interment will follow the services at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan, with Military Honors offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post #162.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Mio United Methodist Church.
