Roger A. Ott

October 20, 1937 — April 16, 2024

Roger Allan Ott, 86, of Comins, Michigan, passed away peacefully the evening of April 16th at
Wellspring Lutheran Services Nursing Home in Fairview, Michigan after a prolonged battle with
dementia.
Roger was born on October 20th, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, to Arthur and Agnes Ott. The family
vacationed on property purchased near Comins, Michigan for decades. Roger went to trade school and
worked in the tool and die field until the late 1960s when he moved north to the family property
permanently. He eventually worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation out of the MDOT
garage in Atlanta, Michigan. Roger was largely responsible for keeping the highways of the area clear
during wintertime, a job he was dedicated to and proud of for decades. Roger retired in the early 1990s,
spending the years after maintaining the land he loved so much, and caretaking for the homes of many
seasonal residents around Bass Lake.
Roger was a skilled mechanic, wood and metal worker, and loved the water. The beach he cultivated on
his property became a well-known and loved place for members of the community and their families to
gather. He owned several watercraft over the years, the most notorious being a pontoon boat christened
“The Jolly Roger” which slowly trolled the waters of Bass Lake all hours of the day and night while
proudly flying a small skull and crossbones flag. Roger also spent many years as a member of the
Comins Eagles club, and was a 27-year cancer survivor.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his son, Roger (Carla) Ott, of Comins;
daughter Verna (Todd) Lee, of Comins; cousins Mary (Donald) Reed, and Shirley Anderson;
grandchildren Ashley Lee, Loran Hudson, Tylor Hudson, Jessup (Giselle) Hudson, Dakota Hether; and
great grandchildren Joseph Hudson, Lilahmae Braley, Hunter Braley, and Arthur Christiansen.
A memorial will be held this summer on the beach at Bass Lake on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024 2pm - 6pm.
We welcome you out to the lake to join us in celebrating Roger's life in the place he loved so much. Please bring pictures and stories to tell if you have them!

Light food and water will be available. Bring a swimsuit and lawn chair.

Update: In the event of inclement weather, we'll be moving into the garage by the house
