Married 38 years.
Both were born in Pontiac General Hospital in Pontiac, MI. and began their married life in Waterford, MI. Both had long and successful careers at General Motors, with over 50 years combined for the automaker.
After retirement they became residents of Luzerne, MI where they immediately became involved in local activities, including the American Legion, Moose Lodge and The Red Hats. They were also active with the Masons and Shriners and helped fundraise to help children and families in need. Roger often took on cooking and kitchen duties, but Brenda ran the show.
During their early years they were members of the Gold Wings Motorcycle Club and traveled the country with friends on countless adventures. They were also classic car lovers and participated in car shows, winning many awards with their vintage rides.
Brenda was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing the organ and painting. When her girls were little, she was the Assistant Girl Scout leader. Roger enjoyed woodworking and made many keepsakes for family and friends. They both loved to play bingo, euchre and shuffleboard while wintering in Bartow, FL. Brenda grew up in Pontiac, MI. and attended school at Emmanuel Baptist Church and Pontiac Central High School. She got her diploma years later in 1991. Roger grew up in Keego Harbor, MI, and graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 1961.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Harley Woody and Laura Mae Dawson (nee Buchanan) and her brother, Dennis Woody (Mary). She is survived by brother Tom Woody (Pattie) and Charlene Woody Garcia (Tom).
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Beatrice Hess and his brother Leo Hess (Carol) and survived by his sister Brenda K. Hess.
They are survived by their children, His daughter Heidi Hess-Smith (Ken) and son Roger Brian Hess, her daughters Teresa Russell, Yvonne Russell-Karboski (Chris), Jeannine Russell-Smith (Ralph), and Christina Russell-Cloutier. Together they have 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. They had full lives and were great hosts to anyone that came to their homes.
Roger and Brenda were cremated and joined together. There will be a service held Saturday, Sept 11, 2021, at 2 pm, at the gravesite in Luzerne Cemetery, 3535 Park Rd., Luzerne, MI 48636 followed by gathering with food at 3pm the Masonic Lodge 424 Deyamond St., Mio, MI 48647
There will also be a service held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 2pm at Brenda’s nephew Marty Woody’s church, Hope Community Church, 1240 Jay Street, Waterford, MI 48327
