Robert S. Slusarski, beloved husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan, age 84, 2 months shy of 85.
Robert was born on July 22, 1931, the son of Anthony and Ludmilla (Macnik) Slusarski in Chicago, Illinois. He was musically inclined, graduated from a Junior College, and played trumpet, trombone, and French horn. He joined a group, “The Moonliters”, and played on the radio in Chicago for 10 years. Bob married Irene Putkummer in 1952 and had Janet,John,Jeffrey, Joyce, Jerry, Judie, and Robbie. The family moved to Livonia, MI, where Bob started directing a group of 25 in St. Maurice Church, the beginning of the Livonia Civic Chorus of 65 members, for 7 years. He married June Campbell in 1975 and they moved to Luzerne, MI, where they purchased the Luzerne Mini-Mart. Bob and June have been devoted members of St. Mary Parish in Mio; where they served as Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors. Bob was the first president of the Oscoda County Chamber of Commerce, and also began the Luzerne Business Association. Bob was a member of the Knight of Columbus Council #7329. He served as Grand Knight, District Deputy, Director of Northern Michigan, and President of the Columbian Building Corp for 15 years, then as an Honorary Member.
Robert is survived by his wife June of Mio, MI; his six children (Jeffery died 7 years ago); 3 step-sons: Michael, Christopher, and Patrick; 3 sons-in-law: Cecil, Glenn, and Patrick; 2 daughters-in-law: Maureen and Barbara; grandsons: Ryan, Lucas, Scott, Justin, and Bradley; granddaughters: Stephanie, Rebecca, Rachel, Brittany, Kelsey, and Kaitlyn; step-granddaughter Amanda,Jamie and Lacey; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Kennedy, Reagan, Alivia, Liam, Maddik, Henry, Ella, Kinley Rose, Jacob, Jonah, Grace and Hazel step great-grandchildren: Ariana and Callie Visitation will be held at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan, on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 3:30 - 8:30 PM, with a Celebration of Life at 7 PM, beginning with Vigil Prayer Service offered by St. Mary’s Parish, followed by a 4th Degree Service and Rosary offered by the Knights of Columbus Council #7329. Visitation will also be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 10 AM until the time of The Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, Michigan, celebrated by Fr. Santiago Hoyumpa. It was Bob’s desire to be cremated following the funeral services. Interment of Ashes at a later date at Luzerne Cemetery, Luzerne, MI.
