Robert D. Palmer, age 68 of Luzerne, Michigan, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 26, 2013.
Robert was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 22, 1945 to Dudley and Lena (Bires) Palmer. He graduated from Mio AuSable High School with the Class of 1963 and attended Alpena community College and Port Huron Community College. He joined the US Navy in 1965, serving his country during the Vietnam Era, where he attended Nuclear Power School. He retired from the Navy in 1985 as a CW03, and settled back in Luzerne. Robert was a member of the Luzerne American Legion Post #162, the Mio Moose Lodge #1035 and was a Big Creek Township Trustee. He was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying Cessna planes. He also enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, tractors, camping, traveling, and cooking. Robert will be remembered as a great husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife Debra of Luzerne, MI; his children: Becky Lambert of Martin, GA; Mark Palmer of St. Michaels, MD; and step-daughter Brandy Maxwell of Grovetown, GA; his 3 sisters: Sue Schramm, Betty (Ed) Knauf, and Charlotte (Clancy) Avery; 2 grandchildren: Michelle (Ben) Presnell and Elliott Rocheleau; 2 step-grandchildren: Brandon McDade and Devin McDade; and 2 great grandchildren: Carter and Harper.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 1-4 PM and from 6-9 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan, and again on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 10 AM until the Funeral Services at 11 AM also at Lashley Funeral Home, with Pastor Russell Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at Luzerne Cemetery, Luzerne Michigan, with Military Honors offered by Luzerne American Legion Post #162.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Luzerne Fire Department.
