Robert J. Michels

Robert Michels was called home on October 13, 2018, just two days after his 49th wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife Fran. He took leave to join his beloved mother Helen in Heaven, where he will wait to welcome, someday, his wife Frances, daughter Christine, son in law Tom and his grandsons Lucas and Cole.

Robert was a USN Veteran and a 25 year Veteran of The Detroit Police Department, where he proudly served as detective and had a large part in creating the B & E Task Force, during which time he removed many habitual criminals from the streets; a protector by nature.

In retirement he found joy in his northern Michigan sanctuary. He cared for his trees and birds and enjoyed the peace and quiet of up-north living, always looking forward to visits with his grandsons.

He was a private man. He maintained a small circle of trusted friends from his days on the force and new ones from his time as administrator at SimHQ, where he was known as "Murphy". He treasured those friendships.

In life Robert was in control of all things, including, it seems, his last breath. He paved the way for his family to prosper and be protected in all their days. If it isn't already so, by the time we meet again, Heaven will be organized and labeled. There will be an "extra" in the cupboard and there will always be a Kleenex box within reach.

Robert would like to be remembered for his honesty and fierce loyalty. He took that seriously. If he cared about you in the slightest, he told you exactly what he was thinking. Anything less was dishonest. If he thought there was a better way, he felt he owed it to you to share it. He had his own way of showing love. He will be missed deeply. He lives on in the hearts of his family and especially in the eyes of his grandsons.

In accordance with Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
