Robert "Doug" Heeg

Robert “Doug” Heeg of Luzerne, Michigan, age 86, passed away December 18, 2020, surrounded by family.

Doug was born in Howell, Michigan on May 28, 1934 to Herman and Charlotte Heeg. He graduated from Williamston High School in 1952 and married Mary Lucille Martin on December 31, 1953. They would have celebrated their 67 ^th anniversary this year.

He lived in Perry, Michigan until 1981 when he moved to Baytown, Texas. In 1995 he moved to the cabin his father built in Luzerne, Michigan. He was active in St. Mary Catholic Church as a server on weekdays and Saturday nights.

Doug is survived by his wife, Mary, and 6 children: Michael (Theresa) of Laingsburg, MI, David (Dawn) of Owosso, MI, Marie (Dave) Lewis of Luzerne, MI, Lyle of Luzerne, MI, Duane of Webberville and Linda (Robert) Hand of Los Alamos, NM. He has 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 6 great - great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 siblings, and 1 grandson.

He enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, camping, square dancing, polka music and making tin men. Farming and tractors were also his passions. Most of all he enjoyed helping others. Doug truly enjoyed his huge family especially when they gathered on Labor Day for the Annual Heeg Hayride. When he couldn’t do the physical things he read and listened to audio books.

Cremation has taken place according to his wishes. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, MI at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the St. Mary of the Woods Shrine Restoration.
