Rita Lou Krick

10-04-47 — 10-15-24

Rita Lou Krick of Mio passed away at home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer Tuesday October 15th, 2024. Born October 4th, 1947 in Wyandotte MI, to Richard & Dorothy Abel. She lived her early life in the downriver area in MI. In 1975 the family moved to West Cherry Creek Rd in Mio.

Rita’s first job in Mio was with the county courthouse as a tax assessor. She made many friends fast. She got involved with the American legion, the moose lodge, she joined a softball, pool, horseshoe, and a bowling league. A few years later she was hired at the state of MI maintenance garage in Mio (MDOT). Most people knew her as the woman that plowed the roads. In 1987 Rita married Jim Krick. The couple owned and operated M-10 wood products, M-33 sales and services in Mio. She was fortunate to retire from MDOT at the young age of 55.

After retirement Rita enjoyed crafting, gardening, remodeling, and refurbishing things. Every Christmas holiday season Rita's daughters would go pick fresh greens so she could make fresh wreaths and grave blankets. A tradition her daughters will continue.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy & Richard Abel. Her husband Jim, & brother Ray. Surviving are her daughters: Kathy Karjala of Mio, Karen Harris of Clarkston, Kris McLaughlin of Mio, Kimberly(Byron) Lietzke of Mio, Grandchildren: Amy, Brittany, Erik, Straton, Cameron, Cassy, & 6 great grandchildren. Brother Richard Abel Jr.(Tammy) & many nieces.

Please join the family on October 27th at the Mio moose lodge from 1-4 to  celebrate a wonderful woman with a drink and a meal.
