Botkin, Jr., Raymond “Chip”, 8/13/1962 – 5/22/2023, age 60 of East Tawas, Michigan, formerly of Mio, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents: Raymond and Marcia; brother Christopher (Holly); sisters: Kathleen Gohsman, Sandra (Alfred) McMurrey, Suzanne (Jerold) McGhee; sister-in-law Kelly Botkin; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Brian.
Chip was born August 13, 1962 in Detroit, Michigan. He was a 1980 graduate of Mio AuSable High School and received a BA in Sociology from Saginaw Valley State University in 1989. Committed to social justice and community service, he will be remembered for his selfless dedication to helping others. A camp counselor, adult and juvenile probation officer, school teacher’s aide, youth program coordinator, and talented pitmaster; Chip wore many hats. He had a passion for learning, for sailing, for music, and for smoking the perfect brisket. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him. He sails on.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 2, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio, MI with Reverend Santiago Hoyumpa officiating.
Interment of ashes will follow at the Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio.
