Mr. Ray Laverne Craig, age 78, of Mio, MI formerly of Mayville, MI, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
Ray was born on August 3, 1932 to Hilray and Francis (Wells) Craig in Mayville, MI.  He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.  Ray married Mary Lou Martin on March 8, 1957 in Vassar, MI.  The couple lived in Mayville for many years. Ray worked at Grede Foundry (formerly known as Eaton Corporation) in Vassar, retiring in 1994.  He and Mary Lou moved to Mio in 1985, where Ray worked for the Oscoda County Park for many years.  He was a life member of the North American Hunt Club and enjoyed going to the casino, building birdhouses, hunting, fishing, and was an avid wood cutter.
Surviving are his children: Mike Craig (Amy Hoppe) of Caro, MI; Bill (Kathleen) Craig of Mayville, MI; Susan (Richard) Taylor of Mio, MI; Charles (Kathryn) Craig of Millington: Walt (Cindy) Craig of Mayville, MI; and Doris Prang of Clarksville, TN; his brother Erwin Craig of Montrose, MI; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and his lady friend Joyce Janca. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Lou (Martin) Craig; his brother Clinton and his sister Doris.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010, from 1-9 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home in Mio, MI;  Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2010, at Lashley Funeral Home with Pastor Marcel Lamb of the Mio United Methodist Church officiating.  In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service. Interment of Ashes will be at Fremont Township Cemetery, Maryville, MI at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to either the Mio Church of God, 831 W. Miller Rd., Mio, MI  48647; or to the Mio United Methodist Church, 1101 W. 8th Street, Mio, MI  48647.
