Rachel E. Lee, age 70, of Fairview, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at her home.
Visitation Monday, August 31, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, and again from 10 AM until the Funeral Service at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Fairview Mennonite Church with Pastor Eldon Krider officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
Rachel was born on October 5, 1938 in the Belgian Congo, Africa to Frank and Eleanor (Wambsal) Longman. She returned to the U.S. with her parents when she was 7, settling in South Western Michigan. Rachel graduated from High School in Palatine, Illinois; then attended and graduated from Moody Bible Institute. She married Roscoe Lee on June 12, 1959 in Kalamazoo, MI. They served as missionaries together in the Congo, Africa from 1967-1976. They moved to the Fairview area in 1977 to work at Camp Barakel. Rachel served 21 years as Administrator for AuSable Valley Community. She faithfully served the Lord she loved in many ways all of her life. She was an active member of the Fairview Mennonite Church; teaching Sunday School and Junior Church, as well as leading the Womenâ??s Bible Study group. Rachel had many hobbies and activities, especially those involving spending time with her grandchildren.
Rachel is survived by her husband Roscoe Lee of Fairview; her children: Stephen E. (Kathy) Lee of Elk Rapids, MI; and Jonathan P. (Andrea) Lee of Petoskey, MI; her grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Nathan, Olivia, Chloe, and Silas; her sisters: Ruth Pontier of Blissfield, MI; and Lois (Richard) NieKamp of Delaware; her brothers-in-law: Ken Parsons and Clare Sutherby; her mother-in-law Doris Lee; and many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends- here and around the world. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Mary Sutherby and Sarah Parsons; her brother-in-law Paul Pontier; and her father-in-law Arthur Lee.
