Polly J. Becker-Matthews

Polly Joyce Becker Matthews, age 91, went to Heaven on May 2, 2023.

Polly was born June 3, 1931 to Colin and Hattie (Burr) Humphrey on their farm in South Branch, Michigan, the youngest of nine children.

She married her childhood sweetheart Vernon Becker on June 18, 1949 just one month after graduating from Mio High School. Together they built a home in Mio where they lived all of their 40 years of married life. They had two daughters: Darlene and Tammy who were raised in Mio.

Polly worked for Mio AuSable Schools for 17 years as a Teacher’s Aide, retiring in 1986. She loved to travel, camp, and especially loved snowmobiling with her family in the winter. She loved working in her yard and flower garden.

Polly was a Charter Member of the Mio Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and worked on the Social Committee.

Polly is preceded in death by her husband Vern, her parents, all of her siblings, and her second husband Phil Matthews. She is survived by her daughters: Darlene Barker of AuGres and Tammy (Keith) Bobenmoyer of Grayling; five grandchildren: Rebekah (Paul) Downing, Robert Barker, Ryan (Danielle) Mahaffy, Randy (Sara) Barker and Casey (Neal) Hyde; eight great-grandchildren (who called her Granny) and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service is at the Mio Baptist Church, Mio, Michigan on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 3 PM. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be at Mentor Township Cemetery in Mio, Michigan.
