Mr. Philip Joseph Savoie, age 81, of Grayling, passed away Wednesday, April 18th, 2007 at Grayling Mercy Hospital.
Visitation Sunday 12 Noon - 9 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Grayling, with a 4th Degree, K of C Service at 3:00 PM and a Vigil Wake Service at 6:00 PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 23rd, with Reverend Robert W. Nalley officiating. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Grayling.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Rose Catherine (Desrochers) Savoie, 9 Children: June Savoie (Doty Latuszek); Patricia (Phil) Bryce; Ken (Catherine) Savoie; Cathy (Mark) Krueger; Theresa (Robert) Root; Rebecca (Charles) Goff; Christine (Duane) Averill; Mark (Karen) Savoie and Ann (Rick) Kloska, 27 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Sr. Lucy Savoie CSJ and Sr. Mary Savoie CSJ, 3 brothers: Clement, Ronald and Peter Savoie.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Edmond and Lucy Savoie, and 5 brothers: August, Homer, Leo, Henry and Fred Savoie.
Philip was born on August 14, 1925 in Dryburg, MI. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1943 in Sault Sainte Marie, MI. He and Rose were married on August 28, 1946. Phil began his working career in the heating and cooling business where he worked for 20 years. He retired as a tinsmith from Flint Metal Fabrication. He was a member of AFL - CIO 639 Flint. The couple settled in Grayling in 1988. Philip was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Grayling, Knights of Columbus Council 1982 where he served as Grand Knight 1991-1994 and was awarded Star Council 3 of those years. He also served as K of C District Deputy for 5 years.
