Patrick A.I. Gilbert, 72, of Brighton, Michigan, passed away on the evening of June 6, 2020 at The Garden City Hospital.
Patrick was born in 1948 in Brighton, Michigan to George and Violet Schaffier. He entered the Marine Corps at 18 years of age and spent 4 years. From there he moved to Atlanta, Michigan where he met the love of his life, Sharon. They married after only 6 weeks of dating and have been married ever since. He started working for the US Postal Service soon after moving to Gaylord, Michigan. He was the Postmaster in Luzerne, Michigan starting in 1983 through 2004 when he retired after 30 years of service.
Patrick was married to Sharon for 48 years and have 2 loving sons, Sean and Timothy. Pat loved to hunt, fish, golf, trail ride, coach baseball and spending time with his family. He loved music that he played every day at the Post Office. It was always the 60’s with many of his favorites, including Elvis. He loved to read later on in life and really enjoyed James Patterson and Web Griffon. Pat enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren taking walks, reading with them, telling amazing stories, and cooking for them. Pat loved to cook meals and make sure that everyone had enough to eat.
His amazing life will forever be cherished by his wife Sharon, his son Sean and wife Heather; his son Timothy and wife Michelle; and his grandchildren, Olivia, Timothy II, Violet, Nolan, Natalie, Kalib, Colton, Dylan and Reagan; his sister Sally and husband Ed; along with his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father George Schaffier, step father Lucian B. Gilbert Jr., mother Violet Mae Gilbert and sister Terry Briley.
Dad will always be remembered for his humor and the love he had for his family. He has touched so many people in his amazing journey. Dad was always caring, loving and selfless. His favorite quote was "Life’s a bitch and then you die".
Visitation Friday, June 12, 2020 from 11:00 AM until the time of Funeral Services at 3:00 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, with Mr. James Slasinski officiating. In accordance with Patrick's wishes, cremation will follow the services.
REMINDER: During the COVID-19 regulations, we are currently required to limit the number of persons in the building to 10 people.
