Patricia Gusler, age 86, passed into the presence of her Savior surrounded by family on Friday, June 6, in Springfield, OH.
She grew up in a family that had experienced change by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The commitment of her parents, Paul and Audrey Gilbert, to faithfully serving the Lord had a major impact on Pat and her surviving siblings: Judy (David) Young, Mary (Ken) Johnson, and Bob (Wendi) Gilbert. That foundation focused Pat’s heart on serving others in the name of Jesus for her entire life.
The influence of Pat and Owen, her late high school sweetheart and husband of over 60 years, are evidenced by the strong legacy of faith passed on to her children, Tim (Lisa) Gusler, and Amy (Tom) Hutchison; 5 grandchildren: Tommy (Sara) Hutchison, Matthew (Sara) Gusler, Joel (Allie) Hutchison, Rachel (Ben) Shields, and Danielle Hutchison; and nine great-grandchildren: Hazel, Leila, TJ, Madison, Beatrix, Ezra, JaKari, Reid, and Ethan.
Being married to a forest ranger meant moving multiple times in Michigan, Missouri, and Indiana. At each location, they quickly connected with a church family to serve and establish what became lifelong friendships. Pat’s constant concern and care for others and a desire to serve Jesus wherever He placed them led to active church involvement, investment in missions, and a particular passion for Christian camp ministries, which she and Owen continued throughout their retirement years.
She worked as an administrative assistant in high school, church, and university contexts. Her responsibility, diligence, professionalism, and personal care of those she worked with and the people they served made a lasting impact on others.
Pat loved the Bible, caring for others through hospitality, and Southern Gospel music. She was committed to constant prayer for family, friends, and the ministries she faithfully supported. Her last wish expressed was for those she loved to remain faithful to loving and following Jesus.
