Oscar G. ""Jerry"" Mast, age 88, of Rose City, formerly of Fairview, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at Bortz Health Care in Rose City, MI.
Oscar was born in Fairview, MI on March 30, 1923 to Noah and Iva Belle (Valentine) Mast. He graduated from Fairview High School, and then served his country as a sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII from 1943-1945. Upon returning home, he married Doris M. (Bugg) Mast on November 19, 1945 in Harrisville, MI. They lived in Fairview, where Oscar owned and operated Oscar ""Jerry"" Mast Forest Products. He served as an Oscoda County Commissioner for a number of years; and also drove truck for Camp Barakal for many years. He also had been a softball umpire and had recently been attending the Mio Church of God. He enjoyed woodworking and singing in barbershop quartets.
Surviving are his wife Doris; his children: Gary (Carole) Mast; Gloria (Donald) Gusler; and Michael (Margaret) Mast; his grandchildren: Kimberly M. Mast-Bresnig, Bradley G. Mast, Christopher L. and Rebecca (Morris) Mast, Andrea (John) Shoaf, Jeffrey (Karla) Gusler, and Gregory (Rachel) Mast; his great grandchildren: Jacob and Ryan Bresnig; Antony D. and Aaron Mast; Jennifer, Kristin, Allison, and Jacob Shoaf: Alex and Julianna Gusler. He is also survived by 6 sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother and 5 sisters.
Visitation Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 1-4 and from 6-9 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI and again on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM at the Mio Church of God, Mio, MI, with Dr. William Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, MI.
