Mrs. Norma J. O'Connor, age 79, of Mio, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Home at AuSable Valley Community in Fairview.
Visitation Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 11 A.M. -1 P.M. at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Ml, until Funeral Services at 1 P.M. with Pastor Russell Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at Kittle Cemetery.
Mrs. O'Connor was born on December 3, 1928 to Roy Frank and Rosalia (Marsh) Dierck in Millington, Michigan. Norma spent most of her childhood growing up in the Mio area. She married Jerry O'Connor on June 7, 1948. They had one son, Patrick Michael, who was born September 11, 1949. Patrick married Elizabeth Stone and had one daughter, Tamara O'Connor, born in 1972. He later married Betty Santioger, and they had two sons: Jeremiah Joseph, born in 1979, and Christopher Michael, born in 1982. Her daughters-in-law still reside in Florida. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 22 years. They then moved to Merritt Island, FL and made their home there. Jerry worked at the NASA Space Center for 15 years before his second retirement. Norma loved their Merritt Island home dearly. She watched the dolphins and all sorts of ocean life from her back porch. In 1989, Norma and Jerry moved back to Michigan to be with their son Patrick in Mio.
Mrs. O'Connor is survived by her sister Dorothy (Everette) Bugg of Curran; her brother Roy James (Dawn) Dierck of Newberry.MI; her grandchildren Tamara O'Connor and Christopher O'Connor of Florida; one great-grandchild Andrew Peaden; her sisters-in law: Betty (Chet) Banaszak of Bay City and Carol (Charles) Galbraith of Fairview; her brother-in-law Gordon (Fran) Moore of Mio, and many nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her father Roy on August 20, 1979; her mother Rosalia on September 7,1982; her husband Jerry, on July 12, 1998; her son Patrick, on February 17, 1993; her grandson Jeremiah Joseph; her sister Elaine (Robert) Taylor of Mio in 1999;and her brother Darrell (Mary Ann) Dierck of Mio in 1972.
