Norma Jean Nelson, age 76 of Cedar Springs, MI, formerly of Mio, Michigan, passed away at Metron of Cedar Springs on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

Norma was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 17, 1941 to J.W. and Effie (King) Allen. She married Monte Nelson on February 4, 1967 in Hazel Park, MI. The couple moved to Mio in 1969. Norma retired from Glen’s Market in Grayling, MI where she was a Department Manager. She was a member of the Mio Church of Christ.  Norma was a 4-time cancer survivor. She also volunteered for the Red Cross.  Norma enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, and spending time with her family.  She also enjoyed camping with her husband and hosting country jamborees.

Norma is survived by her children:  Denise (John) Besson of Trufant, MI; Margaret (Scott) Taylor of Cedar Springs, MI; Dennis (Stacey) Nelson of Swanton, OH; and her “son” Kevin (Jessica) Guindon of Toledo, OH; 4 sisters; 9 grandchildren: Megan, Christopher, Nicole, Bryan, Samantha, Mackenzie, Tiffani, Samantha, and Jackson; and 3 great-grandchildren:  Landon, Aaron, and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Monte, her grandson Shane Matzke, 1 brother, and 1 sister.

Visitation on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 4 -8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and also on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 10 AM until Funeral Services at 11 AM at Lashley Funeral Home with Mr. Dennis Nelson officiating. Interment will follow the services at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan.
