Mr. Monte Jackson Nelson, 75, of Mio, passed away Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at Medilodge Nursing Home of Hillman.
Visitation Tuesday 1:00 - 9:00 PM at The Lashley Funeral Home, Mio and Wednesday, May 7, 2008 from 12:00 Noon until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 PM, at The Mio Church of Christ, with Minister Frank Beek officiating. Interment at Mentor Township Cemetery with military honors offered by The Luzerne American Legion Post # 162. Pallbearers include: Dennis Nelson, Kevin Guindon, John Besson, Chris Besson, Devin Guindon and Joe Matzke.
Monte was born on November 5, 1932 in Whitmer, WV to the late Roscoe & Myrtle (White) Nelson.
He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of The Korean War. He married Norma Jean ( Allen) on February 4, 1967 in Oakland County, MI. The family moved from Hazel Park to Mio in 1969. Monte retired as a supervisor from Townsend Tree Service after 40 years service in the tree trimming industry.
Monte was a member of The Mio Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping, traveling, listening to bluegrass music, playing country music on his guitar and spending time with his family and grandchildren, who he loved dearly.
Monte is survived by his wife of 41 years: Norma Jean (Allen) Nelson; children: Dennis (Stacey) Nelson, Denise (John) Besson, Margaret Matzke, Kevin (Jessica) Guindon, Monte Nelson, Jr., Rick Nelson and Mike Nelson. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Oveline Mullenex and Joy Lou Sites and 3 brothers: Willis, Douglas and Larry Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Shane Matzke, brother: Keith and sister: Twilia; 2 infant brothers and an infant sister.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan, Northeastern Region, 112 W. Chisholm St., Alpena, MI 49707.
