Mary K. Kirkum

Mary Kathleen "Shortstuff" Kirkum, age 74 of Comins, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

Mary was born August 18, 1946 to Herbert and Ellen Cook in Seaboard, Virginia. The family later moved to Cook Mt. in West Virginia, and when Mary was 6 her family moved to Romeo, Michigan. On October 24, 1964, Mary married her forever love Kenneth "Kenny K" Kirkum. In 1989, Kenny and Mary purchased the Fairview Motor Court and made Oscoda County their home. Together they taught line-dancing and started Karaoke with Kenny K. You could find them at Ma Deeter’s on the weekends, teaching and entertaining. After Kenny passed away in 2002, Mary started Cozy Cabin Collectibles. She later made Comins her home.

Mary is survived by her 4 children: Tammy (Gene) Warren, David Kirkum, Becky (John) Osstyn, and Amy Kirkum; 11 grandchildren: Eric (Wynee) Hessler, Jeremy Brisbois, Tyler (Chrissy) Brisbois, Todd (Kelly) Kirkum, Dustin (Amanda) Kalbfleisch, Amanda (Brenden) Barajas, Griffen Beatty, Kirstien Beatty, Mary Watson, Samantha Watson, and Eli Beatty; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 5 siblings: Pat Dies (her twin sister), Charles Cook, Linda (Ben) Ellison, Sandy (Bob) Popps, and Jimmy (Wanda) Cook; 7 sisters and brothers-in-law: Joann Wiers, Bonnie (Steve) Rojeski, Sandra Jacob, Bill Kirkum, and Terri (Brian) Thibodeau; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends: Phillis (Jimmy) Ferns and Debbie (Art) Watson. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her grandson Kyle, her parents, her mother and father -in-law, 3 brothers: Bob, Herbert, and Tommy; and 2 sisters: Carol and Helen.
