Mary Jo Beek

Mary Jo Wetmore Beek was born on June 12, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan to Fred and Alice (Weighman) Gould. She was adopted on October 17, 1940, by Joe and Tillie Wetmore. Tillie was Alice’s sister. They moved to Luzerne, Michigan in 1944. Mary Jo was married to Lawrence Raymond Beek on February 21, 1956, and was the mother of 4 children: Lawrence, Jr., Lewis "Frank", Kathy, and David. She also had 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Beek, Sr., her son Lawrence Beek II, granddaughters Tonya and Crystal, and grandson Kody. She was also preceded in death by her 12 siblings: Leo, Kenny, Ruth, Russell, Archie, Johnny, Richard, Robert, Myrtle, Janet, and Jean. Mary Jo obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ on November 8, 1962, and was one of the first members of the Church of Christ in Mio. Mary Jo faithfully served the Lord’s Church for more than 58 years. She also loved her years as a Foster Grandma at the Mio AuSable School and working in the school cafeteria. Mary Jo is survived by 3 of her 4 children: Lewis "Frank" (Diane), Kathy (Jeff), and David; her grandchildren: Amanda, Adam, Larry, Josh and Jacob, David, Zeek, and Chloe; her great-grandchildren: Ayla, Alyson, Lizzie, Mary-Clemmons, Eleanor, Canaan, Noah-Kate, Larry IV, and Atava; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Visitation on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Mio Church of Christ, Mio, Michigan, with Funeral Services at 1 PM with Mr. Frank Beek officiating. Interment will follow at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio, Michigan. Memorial donations may be directed to Mio AuSable School Foster Grandparent Program. Arrangements by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI.
