Mary Hine

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hine age 92, resident of North Canton for over 5O years, died Friday evening Nov. 25, 2011 at AuSable Valley Community Home in Fairview, Mich,, close to her daughter's residence. She was bom Jan. 26, 1919 in Latrobe, Pa. and received her bachelors degree in education from the University of Akron. She was a teacher in Ashland City Schools and Bolivar. She combined a part-time teaching career and motherhood well-before it was common to do so. She taught at Mary Canon Irwin School for many years and Gerber Faith United Methodist Church pre-school. She was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church and with Jim Shafer's help, established the first kindergarten in community building before the church was built. She was a volunteer at Aultman Hospital for eleven years and a member of North Canton Book Club. She was an avid reader, liked poetry, and had a love of language. She was a letter writer and loved travel. She was a member of Oakwood Country Club for 45 years since 1964, where she was very active in the social programs and known for ""Mine"" parties. She loved big band era, dance and musicals, anything with show business. She had much pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandson and knew of the pending birth of second great-grandson in February. She was married 61 years to Lloyd Louman Hine, pre-deceased June, 2003.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Roberta Ann and Larry Hyder of Hillman, Mich;  son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Paul Forrest and Victoria Hine of Predericksburg, VA; and grandchildren, Amanda Katherine Hine, Chadwick Ross Hine, and Christopher Lloyd Hine and his wife, Deidra; and great grandson, Liam.
