Marty Marie Smith

Marty Marie Smith, age 77 of Fairview, Michigan, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Marty was born in Lapeer, Michigan on June 17, 1947 to the late Ralph L. Hayden and Lila M. Hofstatter. She married John M. Smith on August 11, 1978. They were married for 46 years and resided in Fairview, Michigan. Marty was a certified dietary manager for over 10 years. She served on the Board of Review and also on the Election Board for Oscoda County. Marty loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved crocheting, gardening, and cooking for others; she shared her knowledge with young people as a 4H leader for 15 years. Marty enjoyed her weekly card games and loved hosting family gatherings.

Marty leaves behind her husband John Smith; her children: Kay Williams (Jim), Laurie Smith, and Karen Kirby (Mikey); her grandchildren: Henry Smith, Adam (Kady) Smith, Brook Troyer, KC Kaiser, Kisa Billings, Wallace (Emma) Billings, Tyler (Yvonne) Crouse, Noah Lawler, Cadence Borch, Jayden Smith, and Jamal Kirby; and her great-grandchildren: Graycee, Blake, Brantley, Levi, George, and Willow. She will also be missed by her special friends Sherry Richards and Lil Moede. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ralph L. Hayden and Lila Marie Hofstatter, her daughter Kristie Span, and her grandson Simon Hernandez.

Visitation on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 4 – 8 PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, Michigan. Marty will also lie in state at the Comins Community Church on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 10 AM until the Funeral Services at 11 AM with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating. Interment  at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Michigan.
