Martin "Marty" J. Babich

Martin Joseph "Marty" Babich, age 77, of Atlanta, MI, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at his residence.

Marty was born on August 27, 1943 in Detroit to the late Fabian and Louise (Gregorich) Babich. He attended St. Phillip Neri School and graduated with the class of 1961. Marty worked with his parents and brother at "East Side Carpet Cleaners" on Kercheval Avenue in Detroit. He attended training sessions using truck mount equipment and became a certified cleaning and restoration professional. The business was relocated to East Warren/Cadiuex Area in Detroit to better serve their clients. In 1985 he relocated to Atlanta and restarted his business as "Superior Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners" until he retired in 2000. He then joined "Garland Golf Resort" in Lewiston as a night auditor and retired in 2020.

Marty was very active with the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and was District Deputy for several councils in northern Michigan. He was also active with The Lewiston Lion Club and was "King Lion" for two years.

He loved bowling, golfing and traveling by car across the country, looking for the hidden jewels of small towns, parks, monuments, waterfalls etc. He also loved polka music and attending Polish Festivals.

Survived by his wife of 54 years Elaine J. (Cesarz) Babich; his brother Larry & Gail (Disher) Babich; their son Lance Disher and many cousins and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 10 AM - 11 AM on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lewiston with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 10:30 AM.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Reverend Santiago Hoyumpa officiating. Interment of Ashes at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery Lewiston, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, 145 N. State Ave., Alpena, MI 49707-2835.
