Marilyn Blomfield of Mio passed away at the age of 81 on November 30, 2015. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Blomfield, of Mio, her father, Lloyd Blomfield of Kewadin, MI, and her sister, Vera Sperry Tobias. She is survived by her brother, David Blomfield, of Lakeport, CA, and her nieces Jan Baumgras (David), of Midland, MI, Sandra Dyl (Kenneth), of Lake Orion, MI, and Heather Lee (Ron), of Walnut Creek, CA, as well as two great nephews and two great nieces.
Marilyn was born in Detroit Michigan on November 9, 1934. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1956, she taught high school English and Reading in Berkley, MI. In 1967 Marilyn moved to Luzerne and taught English and Reading at Ogemaw Heights High School until her retirement in 1993.
Marilyn loved animals and was an avid horseback rider. She loved to camp and rock hunt, and she spent many hours combing the Lake Superior shore for agates. She was one of the founding members of the Michigan Trail Riders Association, and she helped construct the Shore to Shore Riding and Hiking Trail. She was on the first shore to shore trail ride in 1964, and she also lead the first all female group of snowmobilers across the state on the trail. Marilyn worked as trail boss for many years at Lost Creek Sky Ranch where she lead both daily trail rides and overnight pack trips.
Visitation 2-5 and 6-8 PM on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI. No services are planned. In accordance with Marilyn's wishes, cremation to follow the visitation period.
