Marcella Harriet Lewis

Mrs. Marcella Harriet Lewis, 85, of Mio, passed away Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 at her residence.
Cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes was held at Luzerne Cemetery, Luzerne, Michigan, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 30th, with Pastor Elizabeth Chace of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church officiating.
Marcella was born on August 25, 1923 in Cumberland, Wisconsin to Pearl & M.D. Allen. She moved with them to Michigan when she was a child. As an adventurous teenager, Marcella took up flying and became the youngest licensed pilot in the state of Michigan. Marcella worked for many years in the secretarial field, before finishing her career as a court recorder in Criminal Court in Detroit. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener, with a particular love of irises. Upon their retirement, she and her husband Val Lewis divided their year between Mio and Florida, until they moved permanently to Mio in 2005.
Marcella is survived by her grandsons William (Carrie) Fortier of North Carolina and Richard (Rebecca) Fortier of Nova Scotia; her daughter-in-law Peggy Fortier of Nova Scotia; two great granddaughters, Colleen and Joanna; and a step son,Patrick Lewis of Florida.
Preceded in death by her parents; her first husband John R. Fortier; her second husband Valmor Lewis; and her son John B. Fortier.
