Leland John (Abner) Layman, age 76 of Fairview, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Grayling, MI.
Leland was born on the family farm in Mio on October 9, 1938, to George and Elizabeth (Gascho) Layman. He served his country in the US Army. Leland had worked for Hoskins for over 30 years. He loved Tiger Baseball and John Deere tractors. He was also a frequent supporter of the Fairview school activities. Leland enjoyed spending time with his family at the coffee shop in Fairview.
Leland is survived by his children: Lynn (Andrew) Berney of Goshen, IN; Jodie (Steve) Biggers of Millersburg, IN; Philip Layman of Glen Burnie, MD; and Cory (Terri) Layman of Jasper, IN; his 3 grandchildren: Cassie (Jake) Morris of Fort Wayne, IN; Patrick Berney of Goshen, IN; and Josh Layman of Jasper,IN; his great grandson Zeke Morris of Fort Wayne, IN; 3 sisters: Grace Handrich, Kathy Layman, and Sherrill Swartz; and his brother DeVere (Annie) Layman, all of Fairview MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law Dwight Handrich and Marlin Swartz.
Visitation on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4-8 PM at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and again on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 10 AM until funeral services at 11AM at the Fairview Mennonite Church with Steve Gusler officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, MI.
Memorial donations may be made to Fairview Area Schools or to the charity of the donors choice.
