Lawrence John Mahoney, Jr. age 87, of Mio, MI, formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014.
Lawrence was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 29, 1926, a son of the late Frances Elizabeth (Kreagh) and Lawrence John Mahoney, Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was an active 4th Degree Member of The Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Assembly #2371 and had been a longtime usher at St. Joan of Arc Parish in St. Clair Shores and was a member of St Mary Catholic Church in Mio.
Surviving are his wife Helene Jean (Schmidt) Mahoney; brother: Robert Mahoney; children: Colleen Schwarz (Per Burchardt), Terrence (Mary Lou) Mahoney and Maureen (Michael) Scapini; grandchildren: Loren, Lesa, Corinne (Matt) Kirkendall, Ryan, Melissa, Michele, Madeleine and Kelly; Great Grandchildren: Connor and Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son: Lawrence John Mahoney III.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio, Michigan, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2014, with Rosary at 9:30 AM . Reverend Santiago Hoyumpa officiating the Mass, with the 4th Degree K of C Service and Military Honors offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post # 162 to follow.
Committal Service, military honors and interment of Ashes at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 12:30 PM.
Larry was a passionate advocate for the Sainthood of Father Solanus Casey. The family requests donations to: Father Solanus Guild, 1780 Mt. Elliott St., Detroit MI 48207.
