LaVerne Arlo Williams, also known as Vern or Uncle Pete, was born on April 19, 1931 in Casonovia, Michigan. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, and later served also in the Air Force. For several decades LaVerne and his Ann Williams lived in Mio, Michigan where he worked as a mechanic. LaVerne and Ann were residents at the Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, Illinois when he was hospitalized, and after a brief illness, LaVerne Williams died on September 25, 2013 in the hospital at North Chicago, Illinois. After the funeral services today in the Mio Seventh-day Adventist Church, LaVerne Williams will be buried with military honors from the Mio VFW Post #4162 in the Mentor Township Cemetery in Mio, Michigan with Pastor Bela Kobor presiding over the services.LaVerne Williams was survived by his wife Fannie Anna Williams, to whom he was deeply devoted; his daughter Connie Sue Williams; his step-son James Wesley Silverthorn; his step-daughter Gloria Green; his three brothers: Max Williams, Arden Williams, and William Williams; his three grandchildren: Ronald Williams, Jr., Jamie Dew, and James Wesley Silverthorn, Jr.; his fifteen great-grandchildren: James Wesley Silverthorn III, Elise Silverthorn, Lorelei Silverthorn, Jocelyn Silverthorn, Lydia Dew, Katie Dew, Hayden Dew, Kyle Thompson, Felicia Williams, Savannah Smrcina, Ronald Williams III, Cassidy Williams, Amanda Williams, Albert Williams, and Adrian Williams; and his four great-great grandchildren: the only child of Albert Williams, the two daughters of Amanda Williams, and Kyle Thompson's son Demarion Thompson.LaVerne had a great sense of humor and a loving heart. Since 2009, when his wife Anna needed to be cared for in the nursing home, LaVerne came every day to be with his wife and hold her hand, as they ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together. In August 2012 LaVerne moved into the nursing home with Anna to receive the care he then needed. In spite of his health challenges, he never complained and kept a positive attitude. He loved music and played the keyboard and harmonica.
